What We Actually Use From Our Wedding Registry

My husband, James, and I have been married for six months now! If you’ve been married for a while, I’m sure that doesn’t seem like a long time, but it’s an exciting anniversary for us. In honor of our six-month anniversary, I thought it would be fun to look back on our registry. It was an overwhelming process putting together a registry, but we’re so grateful for all of our family and friends who supported us at our wedding. We sincerely loved every gift we got, but we thought it would be fun to share some of the things we use most. Hopefully, it will help you when you’re putting together your own registry or just purchasing a gift for newlyweds in your life!
Dishes – Both James and I have lived on our own before, so we had a lot of miscellaneous dishes between the two of us. However, it has been so nice to have an adult set of dishes that match. We got two sets so we have enough dishes to host friends.
Silverware – I had a matching set of silverware when we got married. James had an assortment of silverware he had collected from past roommates and the thrift store. We love this set of silverware because it’s quite fancy looking and it doesn’t bend in half when you try to scoop ice cream like some of our old silverware. Again, we got two sets so we could host.
Microwave – Some apartments come with a microwave. Ours didn’t and I am so grateful that we got one as a gift becuase we use it literally everyday. Trust me, you need a good microwave.
Cube Organizer – We got this cube organizer for our tv in the living. It isn’t the most elegant entertainment center, but it matches our decor and works well for storing my collection of movies and James’s collection of video games. His game consoles fit perfectly in the cubes.
Power Strip – We actually have several of these in our house. It turns that once you get married you have twice the phone chargers, twice the laptop chargers, and twice the random other electronics that need to be plugged in. Having a power strip on our desk, dresser, and in the living room lets us plug in everything we need without having to unplug the other person’s electronics.
Bedding – Neither James and I had had a queen bed before we got married, so bedding was a must. Even if you have old bedding, I would recommend registering for a set as well. There is something so special about starting off a marriage with new bedding that’s just for you as a couple.
Hand Mixer – I know that stand mixers are a popular choice on registries, but we tried to keep the price down, and I don’t bake enough to justify one anyway. This little hand mixer is perfect. It doesn’t take up too much space, and I pull it out to mix mashed potatoes, brownies, and more. We’ll definitely get a stand mixer down the road, but this perfect for us as newlyweds
Popcorn Popper – I actually got this at a bridal shower and we opened it right away and used it well before our wedding. We love having movie nights and this popcorn popper makes way better popcorn than the microwave version.
Chest Freezer – Maybe I’m alone in this, but I love being prepared, and part of that means having a lot of food around. We buy meat when it goes on sale and freeze most of it right away. We also meal prep a ton and freeze that as well. This little chest freezer sits out on our porch and is the perfect size to store extra meat and other frozen food for our little family.
Alexa – We put Alexa on our registry as a last minute edition thinking it would be fun to have, and we were right. If you don’t already have a smart device in your home, I’d recommend one. We mostly use it as a speaker, but it’s so handy to be able to set a timer, look up information, or turn off our electronics.
Breakfast Tray – We are big fans of both breakfast in bed and eating on the couch while we watch a movie, and this tray is perfect for both!
There’s not actually a lot that we got from our wedding that we don’t use ( I think the only thing we’ve never used is the three bread pans we got, but someday we will), but these are some of our favorites!
